Historical Overview

Constructed in 1898, Sweet’s Hotel has stood at the heart of Le Roy, Minnesota, for more than a century, serving as one of the community’s most recognizable landmarks. Commissioned by Civil War veteran, businessman, and civic leader William W. Sweet, the three-story brick hotel was designed to provide modern accommodations for travelers arriving by rail while also functioning as a gathering place for local residents. At the turn of the twentieth century, the hotel quickly became a symbol of Le Roy’s growth and prosperity, welcoming railroad passengers, salesmen, businessmen, and families from across southeastern Minnesota.
